Education

Jorge holds a BS in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

He was born in the Bronx, New York, raised in Queens, and has roots in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Professional

Jorge Torres works at the intersection of venture capital, entrepreneurship, and higher education, creating learning experiences and communities that help people become more thoughtful founders and investors.

He is a Lecturer at the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he teaches ENAS 4030, "Funding It," and visiting faculty at Cornell Tech, where he teaches Venture Capital Mindsets for Entrepreneurs (TECH 5131) and Product Studio (TECH 5900). Across both institutions, his focus is how investors think, how founders build, and how new ventures come to life, particularly where technology, product, and capital meet.

Before entering higher education, he was the first investment hire at Silas Capital, where he completed a Kauffman Fellowship and partnered with entrepreneurs building early-stage consumer brands. Today he mentors and advises former students who have gone on to work as founders and investors.

He previously served as an Entrepreneurship Fellow at the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale and as Dean of Pierson College, where he supported the academic and personal development of a 700-student residential learning community.

He is also the creator and instructor of Venture Fluent, a cohort-based online course that helps working professionals understand the language, concepts, and practice of venture capital investing.

In 2026, Jorge founded The Proximate Community with a group of his former students, a network accelerating entrepreneurship and innovation for early-career leaders that convenes each year at the Proximate Summit. Whether he is working with a university student, an emerging founder, or an experienced investor, his goal is the same: to help people develop the fluency, judgment, and conviction required to build and back enduring companies.

Fellowship

As a member of Class 16, Jorge served his fellowship at Silas Capital. He also served as a mentor to Jules Miller (Class 22).
